Hello and welcome back to my blog, how nice is this weather for September! =)
So today in uni we've learnt a little bit about blogs, Power Point and Photoshop and some more different aspects about what the course will entail. We've also had confirmation about our trip to Paris! Exciting times indeed!
I'd like to share a couple of photographs I've come across by some very well known photographers that mean something to me in some way or another...
Leaper.
This first picture was taken in Paris by Elliott Erwitt in 1989. Despite the couple in the background nearly being blown away, the 'leaper' certainly has a spring in his step! The couple are certainly in keeping with the romantic side of which Paris is known for. I have a real love for black and white photography as I think it adds so much more character to the picture and I think it makes light of a really dull day!
Debbie Harry
This next picture is of Debbie Harry who was the lead singer in Blondie and was taken by Andy Warhol in 1980. I came across this picture on a recent field trip to the Lowry art gallery at Salford Quays and as soon as I seen it I was just taken away by it, it's so simple yet so very effective and gave me an idea to try recreate the look so I'm looking forward to trying it out sometime soon, just have to find a Debbie Harry lookalike! =)
Candy Cigarette 1989
This final picture was taken by Sally Mann of her young daughter at their home in Virginia. I have a real love for this picture and I can't really find why, it just stands out to me so much, I think as I pointed out earlier about the black and white adding character, you can see that this image holds so much character in the attitude, stance and just general ambience! Sally Mann was heavily criticised when she released this work. The subjects are her own children and the project was shot over some 10 years and show her 3 children growing, playing, hurting and just generally growing as siblings at their remote family summer cabin. Due to some of the images of the children being naked she received heavy criticism, to the degree of child pornography! As a parent myself I can see how her defence stands to reason, Her explaination was that the images are
“natural through the eyes of a mother, since she has seen her children in every state: happy, sad, playful, sick, bloodied, angry and even naked.”* She later went on to be named “America’s Best Photographer” in 2001 so she sure showed them!

I think I've wrote enough for today so I think I shall leave it there for now! No doubt I'll be back tomorrow with some images or some more written material so hopefully you'll be back to check me out, thanks for taking the time to read this blog and I hope you've enjoyed what I've posted as much I have sharing them with you =) Adios people...
